Happy Thursday Three!
Here are this week’s coaching tip, exercise tutorial and question to ponder for the week.
I. Coaching tip
Seeking discomfort.
In all facets of health, you need to seek out discomfort to see improvement.
But here’s the sneaky part: we often gravitate towards pushing ourselves in areas where we’re already pretty good. For example, if push-ups are your jam pushing yourself to do a few more reps might be a challenge, but it’s also “normal” for you to do that.
You could argue this is still within your comfort zone. But what about those areas of you’re health you’re avoiding discomfort? They might be the ones that make a world of difference.
Be it sleep, nutrition, stress management or self-talk. Health is much more than physical. You haven’t got to jump in head first, but at least dip in your toes.
II. Exercise Tutorial
The Madona Prayer stretch?
I often get quizzed by clients about exercise & stretch names. In fairness, there are some pretty odd-named exercises out there.
I’ve even renamed some after heavy criticism. The dead bug is now a dying bug (as dead bugs don’t move). But this one, I’m not sure about this...
The butcher’s block is a very effective stretch for tight shoulders and stiff upper backs (t-spine), but I’ve requested to change it to the Madona Prayer stretch in homage to the “Like a Prayer” video.
I’m not so sure about that one. What do you think?
Check out the demo below; at the very least, you will learn a great new stretch 🤗
III. Question to Ponder
Riding the waves
“You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems.“ - James Clear
It’s essential to have a system that can handle the ups and downs of life when it comes to improving your health. Do you feel like your current system is up to the challenge?
If not, how might you make it a little more robust?
P.S. If you enjoyed this week’s Thursday Three, share it with a friend.
Thanks,
Jamie
