Protein 🍖 for health, performance and fat loss

ree

I. How protein keeps us strong, fit and healthy 💪

When we talk about protein, we often think of big muscles and bodybuilders. You know, those folks who have biceps bigger than our heads.

But what about the rest of us? Is protein really that important if we're just trying to be healthier and fitter? Or maybe just lose some weight?

Well, the short answer is yes.

If you're trying to lose weight, you need to eat fewer calories than you burn. But you also need enough protein in your diet to stop your body from breaking down your precious muscle along with body fat.

You don't want to lose those gym gains, right?

Even if you're not interested in big muscles, you still need enough protein in your diet to repair and recover from your workouts.

For general health, protein is also responsible for keeping our skin and hair healthy, supporting our immune system, digestion and hormones.

How much protein you need depends on your goals, how much you exercise, and your body composition, but a good rule of thumb is to aim for 1.4-2.0 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight.

For example, if you weigh 80kg, you should aim to eat between 112g-160g of protein per day.

If you're looking at those numbers and thinking, "Holy cow, that's a lot of protein!" don't worry, you're not alone.

It can be helpful to start by tracking how much you eat now for a week. Then add 20% to that number and do it for another week or so. Keep increasing slowly until you hit the right amount for you.

II. Twisty Bear 🐻

I love this movement! The name may be funny, but it definitely delivers when it comes to getting everything moving.

It's a fantastic way to stretch out tight hamstrings and calves, open up tight shoulders, and even do a little side bending to keep that lower back happy. Give it a try by adding a few minutes of practice before your next session and see how it feels. 😃

III. Quote to ponder

When life gives you lemons, you should ask for something higher in protein.

Nothing sensible here, but it made me chuckle 😂
