Prioritise and Execute 🏋🏻‍♂️

💡 You can only pick ONE...

Have you ever gone toy shopping with kids?

You know the drill. You say, "Okay, you can pick ONE toy," and brace yourself. It's as if their little world just came crashing down. Suddenly, they're in the middle of a toy heaven, spoilt for choice. But instead of making a decision, they get overwhelmed and stage a full-blown Chernobyl meltdown. Stomping, crying, and turning their little tantrum into a public spectacle.

That feeling of overwhelm by too many choices is not unique to kids. Big kids like us do it too. Hopefully with a tad less waterworks and foot stomping.

Take a peek into the world of fitness and you'll see what I mean. There's so much information out there! Latest research, opinions, podcasts, top five must-do exercises - it's a whirlwind. If you're just trying to improve your health, shed a few pounds, and look great on the beach this summer, you're hit with an endless to-do list of MUSTS!

Take nutrition for instance - Have you tried fasting? Or maybe you've heard that tracking calories is the key to weight loss? Ohh and then theres eating enough protein. Maybe I should try the carnivore diet (yep, it's a thing). Is wine carnivore? No wait, didn't my doctor mention something about lowering my cholesterol?

Choices, choices, choices. Phew! Some self-care sounds like a lifeline right about now.

Red light therapy? Ice baths? Sports massage? Meditating? No, wait - sleep. Definitely sleep. But what about time in nature? That's supposed to be great for us, right? So many options out there. Maybe I need therapy for this therapy…

And then there's exercise. Strength or cardio? How about both? But how much of each? And which exercises specifically? Barbell or dumbbell? Running or cycling? And man, my hips feel tight; I should really stretch more.

I may be exaggerating a smidge, but you catch my drift, right? It's so easy to get stuck in overthinking mode, feeling like you can't make a decision.

Jocko Willink, a retired US Navy Seal and author, has a simple little solution - "Prioritise and Execute". Hey says - “If we try to solve all our problems at once, we won't solve any. Instead, determine the top priority task and get it done”.

So, what determines your top priority?

That's the fun part. You could take on your biggest problem head on, or you could start with a smaller, more manageable task. There's no wrong choice. Big tasks might take more effort but offer bigger rewards. Smaller tasks might require less effort but offer a quicker win. What you choose depends on what's happening in your life. The important thing is that you're taking action and building momentum.

But what if I pick the wrong thing?

Good; you can mark it off the list and move onwards. better you spend some time figuring out what doesn't work by taking action than pondering endlessly over potential solutions but doing nothing.
