Going Nowhere Fast: When Progress Flatlines 🐌

It can feel pretty frustrating when you're putting in the effort but not seeing the results you hoped for. We've all been there! But here's the question: are you making no progress, or is it just slower than you expected?

There's a world of difference between the two!

Now, I get it—it's super exciting to track your progress and see those improvements week after week. We often feed off those highs to motivate future efforts, and that's cool and all, but sometimes our progress might be playing hide and seek. Let me explain.

Think about lifting weights at the gym. When you're new to an exercise, you might see some pretty impressive gains week after week. But as you become more experienced, progress tends to slow down a bit. Sometimes you might need to stick with the same weight for a while—maybe even multiple weeks—before you can add even the smallest weight. And you know what? That's totally cool!

It's easy to mistake slow progress for no progress. But here's a little secret: during those weeks when you're repeating the same workout, you're still making gains! It's just more subtle.

According to Pavel Tsatsouline (he's an author and strength coach), the old-school strongmen had a term for this. They called it "Cementing your gains". Sticking with a weight for multiple weeks to own it was seen as a good thing, not something to shy away from.

This principle applies to other areas like nutrition too. You might have been eating like a Greek god for the past week, yet the scales haven't budged. Remember, you're still building solid habits and routines—that's a win!

So if you're feeling frustrated with your progress, Let's do a quick check-in. Have you been putting in the work? If not, there's no sugar-coating it—it's time to roll up your sleeves. If you have, then ask yourself: is it slow progress or no progress? Remember, it can be subtle. Sometimes you need to look a little closer to spot it, but it's often there, quietly building momentum.

Keep showing up, keep doing the work, and good things will happen.
