I. Embrace the Boring: The Unsexy Path to Rock-Solid Health and Fitness.
In a world filled with flashy fitness trends and seductive shortcuts, it's time to champion the unsung heroes of health and fitness – the basics.
This is a lesson I've learned over and over again. When I was a young martial artist, always eager to learn the next new and exciting move, my instructor consistently reminded me, "Black belts do white belt stuff better than anyone." The take home? Master the basics first. This lesson was further ingrained in me when I joined the Marines. The fundamentals - marksmanship, personal administration, navigation, and physical robustness - were the building blocks of an exceptional Marine (though I'll admit, I never quite got the hang of navigation).
Look anywhere and the elite are the master of the fundimentals and guess what? Health and fitness isn’t any different.
Master the Mundane: Let's chat about those seemingly unexciting routines that actually form the bedrock of a healthy lifestyle. It's like laying the foundation of a skyscraper - not the flashy bit, but essential for stability. Nail the basics before diving head-first into the sexy stuff. Trust me, squats, push-ups, lean protein and your trusty vegetables might not make headline news, but they help create a resilient foundation.
Be a Fundamentals Connoisseur: Instead of always being on the hunt for the next big thing, why not become an expert in the timeless fundamentals? Get to grips with nutrition, make consistent movement your best friend, manage your stress and prioritise sleep like it's going out of fashion.
Resist Shiny Object Syndrome: with its lively pace, London can be a hotbed for shiny object syndrome. Fight the urge to be dazzled by the latest fitness gizmos or complicated workout routines. Remember, it's not about what looks impressive; it's about what works sustainably for you. Like a classic watch, simplicity often exudes its own elegance.
Long-Term Sexy: The real allure lies in longevity. Those eye-catching trends might grab attention briefly, but the staying power comes from mastering the fundamentals. It's like choosing a classic suit over a passing fashion fad - it never goes out of style.
So, let's celebrate the unsexy, and the mundane, and become a master of the fundamentals.
II. Kettlebell Front Squat
The kettlebell front squat is like the supercharged cousin of the goblet squat. It doesn't just build strong and resilient legs, it's a full-body party! This move lights up your core, glutes, and even gives some love to those often-forgotten stabiliser muscles.
It's just the ticket for all you everyday heroes balancing work, family, and fitness.
Give it a try 💪
II. Quote to Ponder
For all my clients when I ask for two more reps or better yet a whole new set when they thought they were already done...

P.S. If you enjoyed this week's Thursday Three, please share it with a friend.
Thanks,
Jamie
